Changing the Narrative
for West Michigan Families

Through education, urgent safety initiatives, and community empowerment, we are building a safer, stronger legacy for the next generation.

Family Strolling Outdoors

At Necessary Change, we believe that protecting our families is the first step toward preserving our legacy. We are a community-focused organization providing high-quality swim instruction, open-water survival training, and life-saving resources across Western Michigan.

Our Vision

Empowering Families and Strengthening the Places We Share
Necessary Change envisions a region where every individual and family—regardless of age, background, or income—feels a deep sense of safety, confidence, and belonging across our neighborhoods, schools, parks, and shared waterways.

Our Mission

Our Commitment to Community
Necessary Change exists to build safer, more resilient Western Michigan communities by connecting people of all ages and cultures to  education, life-skills training, and water-safety programs that empower youth, adults, and families to thrive.

Strengthening Families and Communities

We believe changing the narrative requires both protection and celebration. From life-saving water safety training and drown-proofing to community open mics and block parties, we create spaces where West Michigan families can thrive, connect, and grow safely.

By bridging practical safety education with cultural gatherings, we create supportive spaces that protect our youth, uplift families, and strengthen our community's core.
